CODE OF CONDUCT
All attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers at our conference are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event and at conference-related social events. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.
Our conference is dedicated to providing a respectful and harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We will not tolerate harassment or disrespectful behaviour by conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for our conference venue, including talks, Twitter and other online media.
We value respectful behaviour above individual opinions. Respectful behaviour includes: being considerate, kind, constructive, and helpful. Avoiding demeaning, discriminatory, harassing, hateful, or physically threatening behaviour, speech, and imagery. If you’re not sure, ask someone. Never assume.
WHAT CONSTITUTES HARASSMENT AND DISRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOUR?
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other sessions, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
If the conference organisers determine that an event participant is behaving disrespectfully, the organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion and exclusion from the event without warning or refund.
As organisers, we will seek to resolve conflicts peacefully and in a manner that is positive for the community. We can’t foresee every situation so if, in the organisers’ judgment, the best thing to do is to ask a disrespectful individual to leave, we will do so.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I EXPERIENCE DISRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOUR?
If you are being harassed or experience disrespectful behaviour, you are encouraged to respectfully discourage them from that behaviour.
If you feel in any way unable to respond and resolve it respectfully (for any reason), please immediately bring it to the attention of conference staff. Conference staff can be identified as they’ll be wearing orange T-shirts and badges. We want to hear from you about anything that you feel is disrespectful, threatening, or uncomfortable in any way. We will listen and work hard to resolve the matter.
Conference staff will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.
